TAKING THE HEART-HEALTHY PROGRAM ON THE ROAD: BITING THE BULLET
OK, I’ll admit that I’ve painted a rosy picture thus far. There definitely are times when the hotel restaurants have absolutely nothing to offer along the lines of dishes that are delicious as well as nutritious, with interesting sauces and side dishes. You have two choices.
One, ask the concierge where some ethnic restaurants are located fairly close to the hotel. Opt for Italian or Oriental food that night. You can always find some healthy pasta or stir-fry dishes in such spots, anywhere in the world.
Two, you can bite the bullet that night. By that I mean that once in a while it’s necessary to order spartan food in the face of artery-clogging temptations. Yes, it’s tough to forgo the sauces and have a piece of fish simply broiled, and to give up on dessert and wait till you get to your room to have a piece of fruit. Yes, it’s not easy to eat that baked potato plain, or that piece of bread without a spread if they have no margarine. But it can be done once in a while. You’ll be proud of yourself in the morning.
