MALE MENOPAUSE: HOW TO SURVIVE – WORK REVERSAL OR THE CAREER NOSEDIVE EVERY MAN HAS RESPONSIBILITIES TO HIMSELF AND OTHERS (DEPRESSION AND SELF-DOUBT).
To achieve some satisfaction and change you must first take stock of what you have. Value carefully. How good is the lifestyle it affords you? Is the work element of your day so intolerable that you cannot live with it? Do you hate the people you work with?
If the prospects of promotion seem dimmer now than they did five years ago, are you dissatisfied with what you have achieved? Is there another facet you could add to your life to make your life generally more tolerable or, better still, more enjoyable?
The truth is that while the male-menopause exerts its gloomy side effects, every work problem becomes magnified and seemingly insoluble; every dislike takes on mammoth proportions. Problems can seem insurmountable even when they are not. Prejudices and pet-hates start to become the focal point to life simply because they feed two of the male-menopause’s basic symptoms: depression and self-doubt. Work reversal fuels these symptoms.
To survive: do nothing dramatic.
First try to adjust to what appears to be a reversal of all your hopes and ambitions by quietly accepting events because the reversal could sort itself out with time and then, if you remember the problems at all, you may wonder what all the disquiet was all about. Find extra activities that will make your leisure hours fun and fulfilling; make your leisure time an antidote to your work. Above all, move and make changes only slowly. Have no regrets.
